The Havila School in Los Cedros, Nicaragua is named after the land in Eden where gold and precious stones are found. The school, which complies with the curriculum of the Nicaraguan Department of Education, is operated through a partnership between UNIDOS and a small church in Los Cedros.
By sponsoring a child at the Havila School, you are helping children of poor families who cannot afford the minimal costs of their local public school. Your financial support helps pay teachers’ salaries, procure student books and supplies, operate the facilities, and fund a school lunch program. Students receive lunch at school and for some this is the only meal of the day. For most, sponsorship means a child can stay in school and not be required to work. As part of the program, the basic health of the children is monitored by teachers and visiting health care professionals. Children learn about hygiene and how to maintain personal health.
Each sponsor is assigned to an individual student and that student is yours alone. The gift provides direct support for your student’s school and programs; the administration of funds is entirely volunteer-based. The Nicaraguan school year begins in early February and ends in early December, so support for each student must be provided for the entire calendar year.
